POSTPONED - NEW DATE TBC - Richard Ryman Farming, Lichfield.

We'll see the farm's potatoes and arable enterprises, maize maze, PYO pumpkins and sunflowers, composting enterprise, biomass boilers, commercial storage and conservation programmes which include grey partridge release.

Been and gone:

10 June - ABP at Bromstead Farm, Newport.

Farm Manager Andrew Macleod showed members around the research farm which includes Aberdeen Angus sired cattle, and explained the fascinating work going on with cattle feed efficiency.

Tuesday 24 June - Harry Gregory, near Telford.

Harry Gregory runs a 500-acre mixed farming enterprise at his family’s Normanton Farm, where they have farmed since 2007 after relocating from Lancashire. 330 cows are milked and replacement heifers are home-bred from selected cows, with Belgian Blue AI sires used across remaining cows to produce beef cattle for finishing on the farm.

The farm also grows wheat, maize, and fodder beet and the Gregory’s invested in a 120 KW PV system for electricity supply. It was a fascinating visit on a beautiful sunny evening, with LLM vets also in attendance to explain the farm's cattle health policies.

Huge thanks to all of our farm walk hosts, some of whom you will be able to meet again at this year's Harvest Supper.

Suggestions for farm walks and visits are always welcome.
